Stephen Bushell, managing partner of Gooding Partners and chairman of DFK Australia New Zealand, keeps us posted on developments at the DFK Australia New Zealand Annual Conference in Fiji.

Day 1 (pre-conference)
Bula from Fiji! Pre-conference day presented our delegates with the opportunity to explore Fiji for those first timers, or to reacquaint for those who have travelled here many times.

As we settled into the Fiji lifestyle of relaxing and enjoying the amazing islands, we left the hotel and headed off on a day cruise to some remote islands where we snorkelled in the shallows and despite the recent tropical cyclone damage, the marine life was still beautiful and plentiful.

The day was spent on the beach of a tiny castaway style island and we were treated to a healthy lunch of freshly cooked fish and a glass of wine – a nice way to kick-off the annual conference.

Day 2
The DFK Australia New Zealand Board of Directors held our usual pre-conference board meeting. A final check of the conference logistics and any last minute approvals is on the agenda and we are pleased to say everything has come together and we are ready to go!

Following the board meeting, the golfers set off on their traditional golf tournament. Always a hotly contested competition!

To finish off the day, the Board attended an amazing dinner overlooking the most stunning sunset beach in Fiji. A great night was had with everyone tucked away early in readiness for the conference to start tomorrow.

Day 3
With the start of the conference today, we attended the inaugural DFK ANZ tax workshop. This was a half-day event with several member volunteers giving 30-45 minute presentations on various tax related topics from Australia and New Zealand.

With over 30 people attending, there is no doubt this will become part of the annual conference. Congratulations to all who were involved in this workshop.

Following the tax workshop and a free afternoon to explore the local shops, beaches and hotel pools, the conference kicked off with the welcome drinks and dinner.

We were treated to a night of food and wine and catching up with old friends from many parts of Australia and New Zealand together with DFK members from India, Singapore and Fiji also travelling to this conference.

Day 4
Today was a very full day with the conference continuing followed by a cruise on an amazing boat.
The conference was a busy day of presentations with the highlight being a presentation by Governor Barry Whiteside, the Governor of the Bank of Fiji.

It was an honour for Governor Whiteside to present to our conference and we thank him for making the time and effort to attend our conference.

Following the conference, we boarded a stunning boat to travel to another remote island for an afternoon of jet skis, snorkelling and paddle boarding under a beautiful blue sky. There were plenty of laughs and highlights during the afternoon.

Another afternoon activity was visiting the mud baths, the pictures speak for themselves…
To finish off a very full day, we were treated to another amazing dinner with local dancing, fire breathing and a show of Fijian and islander life style.
