DFK Canada’s leaders join forces in Toronto

Delegates of the DFK Canada Leadership conference

Managers and future leaders joined forces for the DFK Canada Leadership Conference held in Toronto.

Representatives from member firms across the country descended on the Marriot Hotel, near Toronto International Airport, for the week-long event.

The programme was geared towards two different audiences, as Lynn Morrovat, Executive Director of DFK Canada, explains.

“The first course was geared towards new managers and focussed on elements such as how to manage and supervise people and time management,” she said.

“The second part was more for our senior managers who are on track to become partners with their respective firms. This focussed more on how to grow business and marketing.”

Nationally recognised consultant to accounting firms, Steve Erickson, joined DFK Canada to lead the sessions.

Lynn added: “The conference went extremely well and feedback on the speakers and the content of the programme was very positive.

“There was a lot of energy in the room, with everyone keen to interact with their peers from other firms and take back ideas to the office to better manage their time and employees.

“Steve Erickson is a really engaging speaker and his talks were very well received. As a former managing partner of a 150-person accounting firm, Steve understands the needs of public accounting firms and their people. He really knows the profession well and has walked the walk and talked the talk, so was very relatable to our audience.”

Nigel Jacobs, President-Elect of DFK Canada, joined the group during the conference to give an overview of DFK International.

“I was delighted to be able to share the value of DFK to some of our future leaders at our firms,” said Nigel.

“The future success of DFK will ultimately depend on the engagement and belief in the value of DFK to individual firms by these aspiring leaders. It is also very exciting to see how willing to learn and how interested these attendees were in the material presented by Steve Erickson.”
