Standing out from competitors was one of the key themes at the DFK 2016 North American Annual Conference in Las Vegas.

The North American conference, which was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Las Vegas, welcomed delegates from as far afield as Europe, India and Australia and had its highest attendance in five years.

It also marked a changing of the guards as Don Mellott took over from Mike Rompa as the new DFK USA President.

The conference was opened by key note speaker John Garrett, a corporate comedian who gave a presentation on how to stand out and be remembered.

The programme featured a range of presentations from respected experts within their fields as well as key updates on the progress and growth of DFK International, along with presentations from new members to DFK USA and DFK Canada.

Award-winning chef Jeff Henderson, a reformed drug dealer who spent almost 10 years in prison and is now a best-selling author and television chef, closed the conference with a speech on tenacity and perseverance.

A variety of extra-curricular activities also proved popular with delegates and included a golf tournament at Bear’s Best Las Vegas – famously designed by Jack Nicklaus, and a supercar driving experience afternoon.

Planning committee chair Andrew Logan, president of DFK Canada and managing partner of Teed Saunders Doyle & Co, said that both the conference programme and extra-curricular activities were very well-received.

“The North American Annual Conference went very well, with its highest attendance in five years,” he said.

“We have since received some excellent feedback from partners who thoroughly enjoyed the conference.

“All of the speakers were very well-received, including our keynote speaker John Garrett who was a particular highlight.

“We had a fantastic programme of social activities, including our usual golf tournament and a supercar driving experience which is one of the best events I’ve been to in the 14 years I’ve been attending the conferences.”

DFK USA Executive Office Director of Meetings, Maureen Dillmore, added that it was a very international conference.

“We were not only joined by members across North America, but also people from Australia, Europe and India, making it very international which was great,” she said.

“We had a lot of interesting speakers, including Jeff Henderson who gave an insight into his life and how he went from spending time in prison for drug dealing to becoming a celebrity chef.

“We have received some great feedback about the conference and I would like to thank everyone for coming and making it a huge success.”
