Shea Labagh Dobberstein Appoints Three New Principals

Shea Labagh Dobberstein (SLD), a leading CPA firm in the Bay Area, is pleased to announce that effective January 01, 2017, three of its directors have been promoted to principals: Marc Armstrong, CPA, CFA, MBT; Liza T. Belale, CPA; and Chika Shimada, CPA.

Last year, SLD experienced steady growth and was again named a ‘Best of the Best’ firm by INSIDE Public Accounting (IPA), a leading accounting trade publication. The firm also received the distinction of ‘Top 10 Fastest-Growing Best of the Best’ firm and ‘Top 200’ firm based on U.S. net revenues. “The combination of our many long-standing employees with new additions of professionals has created a very talented and experienced team that rivals or surpasses the competition,” said James Dobberstein, Managing Principal at Shea Labagh Dobberstein.

Marc Armstrong
Marc Armstrong, CPA, CFA, MBT, has nearly fifteen years of tax experience in both private and public sectors. Prior to joining SLD, Armstrong’s experience included six years within the Big Four public accounting industry at Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Over his fifteen-year career, he has transitioned to smaller firms, where he has had the opportunity to make a greater impact on his clients and their businesses. He has helped develop SLD’s real estate and manufacturing industries. Armstrong earned a Master of Business Taxation, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Business with an emphasis in Information Systems, from University of Southern California’s Leventhal School of Accounting. Armstrong is a Certified Public Accountant and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder. He is also on the Taxation committee for CalCPA and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

Liza T. Belale
Liza T. Belale, CPA, has helped develop SLD’s manufacturing and distribution industries since joining the firm in 2002. For over twenty years, Belale has provided auditing, attest and accounting services to multinational corporations, closely-held businesses and their retirement plans. She is the technical leader of the firm’s employee benefit plan practice. Belale attended Saint Louis University, Philippines, before taking a position in 1991 with SGV & Co, Ernst & Young’s operation in her native country. She eventually became a director of their Audit and Business Advisory department. Belale earned her Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, with a major in Accounting, from Saint Louis University, Philippines, graduating cum laude. She is a Certified Public Accountant in the U.S. and the Philippines, and a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the California State Society of CPAs and the Philippine Institute of CPAs.

Chika Shimada
Since 2004, Chika Shimada, CPA, has been with the firm managing multiple audit engagements with overseas operations, handling foreign currency consolidations, and managing and engaging multiple audit teams. She has been instrumental to the firm’s in-house growth, building out and managing the firm’s technical compliance and training programs. As principal, Shimada will continue to handle client engagements, while recruiting and mentoring the next generation of audit professionals. With her bilingual skills in Japanese and English, she has been a particular asset, serving the needs of U.S. subsidiaries of Japanese public companies. Shimada graduated magna cum laude from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a concentration in Accounting. She is a Certified Public Accountant, and a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the California State Society of CPAs. She is also a member of Financial Women of San Francisco.
