DFK Appoints Deputy President

28 October 2015

A prominent member of DFK International has been appointed Deputy President of the association.

Roland W. Graf, who is vice‐chairman of the DFK International Tax Committee and chairs the DFK EMEA tax meetings, will hold the key position until July 2017 when he will take over as President from Demetris Demetriou.

“I am delighted to be voted in as Deputy President and am excited to be at the forefront of helping to take DFK International further forward,” said Roland, also a former member of the DFK EMEA Executive Committee.

“There have been a lot of improvements in recent years within DFK International and I am keen to add my ideas and my support to the very good work that has already been instigated by the board of directors and lots of members.”

Roland is a partner at Peters, Schönberger & Partner (PSP), a multi‐disciplinary firm located in Munich, Germany, where he specialises as a tax lawyer. He joined PSP in 2000 from KPMG where he had started his career in Munich and New York and left as a senior manager.

He gave his first presentation to a DFK International conference in 2003 in Berlin and since then, has only missed one or two international and DFK EMEA conferences.

He has a strong interest in international work and firmly believes that is where the future lies for the profession.

“If you close your eyes at the frontiers of your home country you cannot succeed because mid‐size or even smaller clients have to expand and become international if they are not already.  Therefore our firms have to grow with the clients and their challenges and think internationally,” he said.

In recent years, Roland has been an active figure on the DFK International Tax Committee and an active participant in DFK International conferences and meetings.  He has also organised the publication of DFK International tax handbooks involving DFK member firms for the benefit of existing and potential clients.

He believes that tax competence is an area that has greatly improved within DFK International over the last 15 years and in his new role, he wants to help build on other strides that have been made.

“The quality of our member firms and how people work together is of great importance and we need to do all we can to keep making improvements,” he said.

“What I would like to improve, and we have already taken a few steps towards this goal, is to select issues that are relevant to our clients especially in the future and look at how experts from member firms can work together more closely to bring together their ideas and find solutions for them.

“Another big issue is IT, such as electronic invoicing and data storing, as a lot has changed over the last couple of years and it will continue to play an immense role in the future.  Again, there is an opportunity for us as members to work closely together to find solutions for clients in any country.”

Demetris welcomed Roland as his deputy and said he was looking forward to working together as figureheads for the association.

“Roland is well‐known within DFK International due to his active involvement and his breadth of experience and knowledge will be a great asset to the association in his role as Deputy President,” said Demetris.
