DFK Annual Conference – Developing Business in South East Asia

26 May 2016

Capitalising on the enormous commercial potential of doing business in South East Asia and East Asia will be one of the key focus areas of this year’s annual conference in Vietnam.

The conference is being held in Hanoi, Vietnam for the first time and will present DFK member firms with an insight into inward and outward investment opportunities within one of the world’s fastest growing economic powerhouses.

A fascinating perspective of the American War in Vietnam will also be among the highlights at the conference, as DFK International is delighted to have secured war veteran Nguyen Hong My as a guest speaker.

Mr My is a former MiG pilot who was responsible for shooting down the first American fighter jet, and was later shot down during intense aerial combat in 1972.

Martin Sharp, executive director of DFK International, said business development opportunities within the South East Asia and East Asia regions will be of major interest to many members firms and hopes the location and vast programme of the conference will prove to be a big draw.

He said: “The regions have enormous commercial potential for DFK member firms and this year’s conference will be a perfect opportunity to learn of new opportunities and strategies to grow business in South East Asia and East Asia and utilise and build relationships within the association.

“The emerging economic powerhouses in Asia presents a vast array of inward and outward investment and the conference programme will include a number of presentations and talks on the challenges and opportunities of doing business and investing in Vietnam, China and the wider region.”

The conference is being hosted by DFK Vietnam at the Hilton Hanoi Opera Hotel from Wednesday, July 13 to Friday, July 15.

As well as the main business sessions, there will be also be number of optional meetings and seminars and social activities.

Mr My will be the main speaker at a presentation titled ‘The American War in Vietnam – how and why did it happen?’ which will be held on the Friday afternoon.

Martin added: “We’re delighted Mr My is joining us at the conference to give us an insight into his perspective of the war in Vietnam and his life out of the forces after being injured in combat.

“Mr My’s story has been covered extensively by the World’s media, particularly when he was reunited with General Dan Cherry, the American pilot who shot down his MiG, and the friendship which was built between the two of them all those years on.

“To hear his story in person will be fascinating, and along with other aspects of the programme should give our delegates a greater understanding of the history of Vietnam, its rich traditions and unique culture.”
