A rising star within DFK International has been recognised at a major global awards.

Justin Hoffman, from member firm Davis Martindale in London, Canada, overcame strong opposition from across the world to be named as a finalist at the STEP Private Client Awards 2016/17.

The awards, held at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in London, England, are widely seen as a hallmark of quality in the private client industry.

Now in its 11th year, the awards included 15 categories open to individuals and firms across the industry.

Justin was among 650 private client practitioners in attendance at the awards evening, and was one of just five finalists shortlisted for Young Practitioner of the Year Award.

The finalists, selected by an expert panel of judges from 239 entries, included 70 firms and five individuals from all over the world, including Australia, Canada, Hong Kong and the US, among other countries.

Justin, who is 29 and joined Davis Martindale four and a half years ago, said: “Paul Panabaker put my name forward for the award, which I was really grateful for.

“I’d received the highest score on several of my diploma exams, and the highest overall average for the programme, and done various volunteering in the community, so Paul felt I’d have a good shot of doing well in the global STEP Awards.”

The senior tax analyst was joined by Davis Martindale partner and DFK International vice-president of the Americas region, Paul Panabaker, at the awards evening and was delighted to be in good company at the event.

Justin added: “Although I didn’t end up winning the top award I was delighted to be shortlisted in the top five.

“It was a fantastic evening. We were in the company of many well regarded and esteemed professionals, many of whom have made a real difference to the industry.

“It was interesting to be sat around people at the dinner table who have wrote the text books that you’ve studied from and have been influential in developing certain laws and practices in the industry.”

Paul Panabaker said: “We are very proud of Justin’s accomplishments and he has a terrific future in our cross border tax practice.

“Justin and I also had the opportunity to visit DFK executive director Martin Sharp, and member firms Wilson Wright and CBW, and we certainly appreciated the hospitality of our fellow DFK member firms during our short visit to the other London.”
